The 2023 EurAI Artificial Intelligence Dissertation Award is awarded to Andrea Campagner for his PhD "Robust Learning Methods for Imprecise Data and Cautious Inference", defenced at the Department of Informatics, Systems and Communication of the Scuola di Dottorato della Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca.
The thesis introduces a new ensemble-based pseudo-label learning algorithm and a novel feature selection method for imprecise data, both of which have shown superior performance compared to existing methods.
Andrea Campagner is a Postdoc Researcher at the IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi-Sant'Ambrogio, the major Italian research hospital devoted to orthopaedics and traumatology. There, he works on applying machine learning methodologies and human-AI interaction to clinical decision-making and clinical process management. He is a member of the MUDI Lab (Modeling Uncertainty, Decisions and Interaction) at the University of Milano-Bicocca, where he received his PhD advised by Gianluigi Ciocca (tutor), Davide Ciucci (supervisor), Federico Cabitza (co-supervisor), and Leonardo Mariani (coordinator).
At this 2023 EurAI Dissertation Award edition, 24 theses from 11 different countries were presented. The jury consisted of 14 academic researchers.
